It’s 118 miles long, looks like a fish on a map, and is the place we call home. Long Island. Why would you wanna live anywhere else, am I right? I mean, we’ve got everything right here! We’re not too far from the greatest city in the world, but live just far enough where we still get that quiet suburb feel, we’re home to the best food, and of course…the beach. There is nothing like Long Island summers.

But, have you ever wondered what makes you a true Long Islander? What sets you apart from the rest of the world?

1.AA bagel and iced tea is the breakfast of champions

2.   You live ON Long Island, not IN Long Island

3.  The north and south shore are two completely different worlds

4.  As are Nassau and Suffolk

5.  You have your favorite deli and are completely loyal

6.  The parties on “My Super Sweet 16” never seemed too ridiculous to you

7.  You’re very protective over your beach

8.  Your first concert was probably at Nassau Coliseum or Jones Beach Theater

9.  Everyone’s parents either grew up in Brooklyn or Queens

10. You’ve made the dreaded mistake of taking a train that makes you “change at Jamaica”

11. You know what BEC stands for

12.  Your summers are spent at the beach and/or on a boat

13.  You also spend your summer making Hamptons/Montauk trips

14. Ralph’s> Rita’s. ALWAYS

15. It’s “The City”. Not Manhattan or New York

16. When outsiders hear your accent, they assume you’re from Jersey (and will ask you to say words like coffee and water)

17. Billy Joel is kinda a big deal

18. You’ve never been to Times Square on New Years Eve

19. In fact, you probably haven’t done most of the “touristy” things in the city

20. High school rivalries are to be taken very seriously

21. Pizza and Chinese food anywhere else is just gross

22. More than half of your fellow Long Islander’s are Italian and/or Irish

23. There is nothing like tailgating concerts at Jones Beach

24. Every town has its claim to fame, and no one will ever let you forget theirs

25. You wouldn’t wanna live any place else
