Since Demi Lovato was playing the Barclay’s Center last Friday it got me thinking about what I would do if I was seeing a show there. Why go in last minute with the crowds? Maybe I would spend the day exploring the area. So here is a list of a few things do to to make a day out of heading to the Barclays.
Taking the LIRR to Atlantic Terminal is easy. Switch at Jamaica and BAM! You are there. No driving and no worrying about parking.
If the day of your concert is nice then head to the Brooklyn Botanical Gardens. You can take the subway ( 2 or 3) directly from Atlantic Terminal close to the gardens and then it’s a short 5 minute walk from the station.
The gardens are beautiful and it’s a great way to spend a nice day!
Not your thing? Then just get off at Atlantic terminal and go the mall located above it. If it’s not nice out or you prefer shopping to nature then you can hit up all the shops right there across from the Barclay’s center.
Treat Yo Self
With literal treats! Within walking distance of the music hall are two great choices.
Doughnut Plant has unique and traditional types of donuts to choose from. If you have a sweet tooth head over here for some coffee and a donut.
My first love is and will always be ice cream. Ample Hills Creamery is quite close as well. With unique flavors like Cookie Au Lait and Ooey Gooey Butter Cake how can you go wrong? To top it off they have “Star Wars” inspired pints as well.
Dinner is Important
If you are spending the day out there you will want to hit up some food before you head inside. The shopping center does have a food court with a variety of fast food choices but if you are looking for something a bit nicer here are a few cool spots.
Alchemy- is a gastropub with a great outdoor patio for the nicer days serving pub style food
No.7- has a cool hipster vibe and good prices on classics
Miriam- try your hand at Israeli food for a unique dining experience.
Grab a Drink
Whether you are waiting before the show or want to avoid the train crowd after the show you might want to grab a drink while you’re waiting. I would recommend Soda Bar. Originally it was an old soda shoppe now turned bar! The interior looks like the 1950’s. You can grab a beer and relax.
Do you have recommendations for the area? I would love to hear them!
